How to eliminate laziness
Yoram Yasur Izz: How many times have you started a diet and left it halfway? Or you have started to go to the gym and you have left it after a short time. And it is that imposing a habit of blow, going from nothing to much in a short time requires a lot of energy. In the end, one ends up getting tired and abandons the purpose that had been marked.
But we can achieve our goals in a more leisurely way. If we dedicate a minute a day to carry out a new habit (sports, learning languages …) it is easier for us not to be lazy and to get used to the routine without effort.
Japanese Kaizen Philosophy
Yoram Yasur Izz: The term Kaizen or rule of the minute is constructed in Japanese with two words: kai (change) and Zen (wisdom). It means “good changes” and continuous improvement in personal, family, social and work life. Although this philosophy was applied in its beginnings to the labor world, little by little it has been introduced in all aspects of life.
Yoram Yasur Izz: The Kaizen Method, created by Masaaki Imai, proposes by a progress making small changes, but constant, instead of a radical break. The small actions, performed without haste but without pause, represent a minor challenge that we can achieve almost unconsciously. This system is a tool for improving our quality of life, where improvement becomes a continuous process, not a specific achievement. Success is achieved through time and perseverance, through a long-term commitment.
Steps of the Kaizen Method
The basic principles of continuous improvement include:
- Continuous learning: it is always a good time to continue learning new things. The world advances and our mind too.
- Focus on the feasible: instead of thinking about the negative, keep your mind on the positive things and the things you can achieve.
- Stop making excuses: do not stop, start acting and move forward little by little.
- Do not look for perfection: abandoning or renouncing can be a failure but seeking perfection and erring along the way prepares us for failure.
- Correct mistakes: when you encounter problems, stop, find a solution, and move forward.
- Evolve: you must recognize a challenge as an opportunity to progress and evolve. Learn to overcome obstacles.
- Ask: if you understand why things increase your knowledge. If you do not understand something, ask.

The Kaizen Method moves us away from fear of changes because, because they are small, the anguish to fail is less. Likewise, we are more motivated in the face of small challenges than in the face of impossible feats. And it will always be better to prevent a problem than to solve it.
Examples of the Kaizen Method
Start by performing a certain task for one minute a day, every day and, if you can, at the same time.
- Lose weight: leave the small bad habits, such as sugary drinks or snacks between meals. These gestures will help you lose weight and internalize healthier habits.
- Learn languages: read everyday words in the language you want to learn (blogs, short novels) and look for the meaning; Listen to the radio or watch TV in that language.
- Exercise: if you want to run an hour a day, start running 1 minute every day at the same time. In 7 days you will be ready to run 5 minutes in a row, and so on, until you arrive at the time you have proposed.
- Cleaning: putting the dishwasher, making the bed, or ordering clothes are activities that do not require more than 60 seconds. The Kaizen Method encourages you to not stop doing this type of routine actions and assume them as a habit.
